My Afternoon Delight

Show #302  Judged

MADE BY: Marylee Drake

QUILTED BY:  Precision Quiltworks

I've always wanted to do a traditional Block of the Month. I saw this quilt on the Ricky Tims/Alex Anderson Quilt Show and knew this would be one I would enjoy. If it hadn't been for Covid-19 I might not have finished it. Staying home for so many months helped me stay focused each month. I finished the piecing and assembly on December 29th, 2020. My goal to finish in 2020 was achieved.

If you are using a cell phone or a tablet to view the show and “back” doesn’t take you back to the quilt you were on, enlarging the original page just a little should fix the problem.

Please vote for your favorite quilt on this page using the link at the bottom of the page.

Memories of Kauai the Garden Isle

Show #301  Judged

MADE BY: Laura Rucker

QUILTED BY:  Laura Rucker

This Carol Morrissey pattern and the Kaffe fabrics and this pattern all together evokes, for me, the beautiful flowers of Hawaii, and especially those in the Botanical Gardens on Kauai.

QUILTED BY:  Chere Yamasaki

We have a large Rose garden at our home. This wall hanging will be up for their season. It's an opportunity to do some renegade thread play. Pattern by Melinda Bula.

Christmas Tree

Show #304

MADE BY: Marylee Drake

QUILTED BY:  Marylee Drake

I saw a similar wall hanging at the quilt show in Reno, in the AccuQuilt booth. I made it up and used it as a class sample for our Sierra Sisters Play Day. It was fun to stitch around the tear drop shapes with gold metallic thread, and machine quilt snowflakes in the background.

Garden Wedding

Show #305  Judged

MADE BY: Lori Heitz

QUILTED BY:  Melanie Shreeve

This quilt was made for our granddaughter's wedding in February 2019. It was given to her at her bridal shower and she loved it. This was my very first attempt at doing applique of any kind, so I decided to try machine applique. I found that I really like applique and will do more in the future. Design by Barbara Eikmeier in McCall's Quilting Magazine.

Ancestors

MADE BY: Carol Vierra

QUILTED BY:  Brandy Rayburn

I designed this quilt with Ricky Tims’ guidance 12 years ago at a retreat in La Veta, CO. It is a Rhapsody style quilt, designed to honor my parents and their ancestors, blending Irish knots with Hawaiian hibiscus flowers. The quilt remained “in progress” for 12 years because I was intimidated by all that machine applique. The COVID shutdown inspired me to reorient myself and just get it done.

Sing Me A Song

Show #307  Judged

MADE BY: Terry Harman

QUILTED BY:  Terry Harman

This design is from Laura Heine Fiberworks. It is done in the collage technique which I love. It appeared on the cover of an art quilting magazine and definitely called to me. It took as long to do the very small close together quilting as it did to assemble the entire quilt. But, I think the outcome is striking.

Come See the Animals

Show #308  Judged

MADE BY: Terry Harman

QUILTED BY:  Sherry Franceschi

Block of the Month from Swifty Stitches. The animals originated from greeting cards produced in England. Swifty Stitches contacted the copyright holder and was granted permission to turn 12 of their designs into quilt patterns, and our very interesting BOM began. We were given a line drawing of the animal for each block and each participant interpreted that drawing into "their" animal. It was one of the most fun and original BOMs I've done.

Sharon Schamber spoke to the guild many years ago. The workshop was a technique called Piec-lique. Nancy made this wall hanging in the class. I quilted it during the 2020 pandemic. It will be donated to the Sutter Breast Cancer auction in Nancy’s memory.

In the year of Covid 19, we considered using it as our sole Christmas Tree. Tradition won and it became a wall hanging for the season.

Blursday - 2020 Holidays

Show #314

MADE BY: Lynn Tubbe

QUILTED BY:  Lynn Tubbe

This fused applique quilt reflects how all the days and holidays blurred together during the pandemic. I call this new holiday season “Hallow-Thank-Mas”.

This wall hanging was a Discovery Days 'ZOOM' class in November 2020 and taught by Marina Towne. The panel and fabrics were our own choice, as were the appliqué pieces.

Here's the Cat

Show #318

MADE BY: Colleen Voet

QUILTED BY:  Colleen Voet

I made this for the 2020 Challenge, Inspired By. My inspiration was a magazine ad for Fresh Step kitty litter that said, "Where's the cat?" I wanted to use the fun stripey fabric I found somewhere - wish I had more of it! Because I was able to use this fabric I could significantly simplify the McKenna Ryan pattern. And I got to use some of the decorative stitches on my machine that we never get to use. So, Where's the cat? Here's the cat!

Kokopelli

Show #319

MADE BY: Sharon Rizzato

QUILTED BY:  Sharon Rizzato

My dad was a professional flutist. Kokopelli is dear to my heart. Design by Donna J. Sylvia.
