Pickled Cherries

Show #701  Judged

MADE BY: Janise Orcutt

QUILTED BY:  Lin Squires

This is the 2nd quilt I pieced 5 years ago after learning how to quilt. But I had to pause and learn how to appliqué before I could finish the border. The center area is paper pieced with a Pickle Dish design and the border is hand appliquéd with a vine of luscious clusters of cherries. Classic Quilts: Tricia Lund & Judy Pollard.

Pinwheels for Carolyn

Show #702

MADE BY: Peggie Wormington

QUILTED BY:  John and Karla Rogers

"Pinwheels for Carolyn" was one of those patterns in the pile called "Gotta make this some day."  Well, 2020 was the year. I made the half square triangles slightly oversized and trimmed them to the exact measurement to make the 2" finished pinwheels. No one should be surprised that all these fabrics came from my stash.

During the Power Outage of November 2019, I used my Treadle Machine to make this quilt. It is made of dyed muslin and shirting fabrics. I heated an antique "iron" on my gas stove to press the fabrics. I enjoyed making this quilt as I reflected about my great aunt, who made her living as a seamstress treadling away every day on this machine!

I won this panel in a raffle basket. During one of my “monkey brain” days I decided to make a scrappy border and donate it to Community Service. I used the stack and whack method to randomly piece the border. Hopefully some child will enjoy the quilt.

New York, New York

Show #709  Judged

MADE BY: Terry Harman

QUILTED BY:  Sherry Franceschi

This was a class at Swifty Stitches quilt Shop in 2018. I had never done a New York Beauty type of quilt so I thought this would be a good small one to learn on. Not sure I will ever do another one as it was a lot harder to piece than I thought it would be, but I really like the finished quilt. I never thought I would finish it , but during the first few months of our Covid quarantine I decided it was now or never to get it done. I am so glad it did finish it!

These hard working gnomes are getting ready for winter spending all day chopping wood. They probably stopped to play in the snow with their woodland friends. You can almost imagine their mischievous smiles under their beards.

Covid Love

Show #714

MADE BY: Jane Haworth

QUILTED BY:  Jane Haworth

This quilt began as a small quilt (top left) from a pattern I saw online by Stitches Quilting, called "Healthcare Hero" to support our doctors, nurses and front-line workers. As the Covid numbers grew, I made more quilts and the colors darkened as the numbers did. I put these 4 quilts together as my 2020 Challenge entry. I think I will have to make more?

Christmas Morning Delight

Show #716

MADE BY: Molly Korb

QUILTED BY:  Molly Korb

The center panel of this quilt is the reason I learned to quilt. I love Christmas for all its meaning, colors and lights. With all the classes at our guild, I learned the techniques to make this and so much more. I am hooked. Pattern design by Material Girlfriends.
